Missing utilities for macOS
I use Windows and macOS on my desktops (and Linux on my servers). I prefer macOS over Windows, but I do miss some of the features in Windows.
One of them is FancyZones, part of Microsoft PowerToys. Also, I really detest macOS Finder. I wish there was a macOS Explorer instead - but anyhow ;-)
I run a 3-screen setup at home: Windows laptop or MacBook Air on the left, 32” 4k landscape LCD in the center and a 27” 4k portrait LCD to the right.
Fancy^WMacsyZones
I usually keep 3 windows stacked vertically on the portrait monitor - easy to do with FancyZones on Windows, but fiddly on macOS.
Until now! I found MacsyZones, by ‘Meowing Cat’. It’s free, but you can support them for around 7 Euros - excellent value!
Installation is easy. Download the app image, or simply use Homebrew:
brew install --cask macsyzones
It took some time to get right (tip: create one profile for each individual monitor; MacsyZones auto-switches between profiles) but I’m super happy with it.
The Notch
QuakeNotch, also by ‘Meowing Cat’, adds a Terminal and more to the MacBook notch. Also highly recommended, either free or buy it for around 15 Euros!
Again, installation is easy. Download the app image, or use Homebrew:
brew install --cask quakenotch
