DJI Neo 2
I got a new gadget: a DJI Neo 2 “selfie drone”.

It’s a great little drone for beginners; it offers:
- Proper obstacle avoidance using cameras as well as LIDAR
- Gesture control (very “Star Wars”, Force-control your drone ;-))
- Take-off and Landing on the palm of your hand
- 19 minutes of flight time on a single battery (in theory…)
All this - and more - in a package that weighs around 150 grams, and measures only 17x17 cm!
Fly More Combo
Depending on the version, you get extra flight batteries, a controller and even a set of FPV goggles.
I purchased the Fly More Combo which includes 3 flight batteries, a charger (not pictured), a Digital Transceiver add-on for the drone and an RC-N3 remote controller.

First flight
Flying the drone is a lot of fun; I started with Gesture Control. The drone takes off from your palm at the press of a button, and follows you around until you extend your arm - it will auto-land on your hand. Magic ;-)
Next, using the remote controller - keeping the drone in “C-mode” (Cinematic, so quite slow). “N-mode” (Normal) allows the drone to go a bit faster, while “S-mode” (Sports) is fastest. In S-mode, obstacle avoidance is disabled to I choose to stay in C-mode or N-mode for now.
Obstacle avoidance is impressive - probably due to the front-mounted LIDAR sensor. I tried flying into a wall, but the drone slowed down and stopped at a safe distance. Good!
Image quality is very good - I recorded in 4k@30Hz. Of course, this was during daytime conditions.
Verdict
Indeed, a great little drone with impressive features - and a lot of fun! Now, I just need more practice ;-)
