Farewell, my dear friend …

You were my furry buddy, my feline soulmate. We were inseparable from October 2012 until today, 13 years later, on the fifth of June 2025.

Balthazar

We met each other at Dierenambulance Helmond shortly after Animal Day, 4 october 2012. Bottle-raised, suffering from cat flu despite being vaccinated. Those first days, you and me huddled in my dressing gown for warmth. You soon recovered and were always near me ever since - my “shadow”, if you will.

You got to know all veterinarians in the Eindhoven area for a variety of issues including Eosinophilic Granuloma Complex (Eusinofiel Granuloom). At 2 years old you had to undergo major orthopedic surgery on your hind legs; the cartilage in your hip joints had not properly developed; according to the surgeon this must have felt like walking on two broken legs.

After surgery - they had to remove both femoral heads - we were amazed to see how quickly you recovered. You could walk, run and even jump over our garden fence! Honestly, we could have done without the jumping over the garden fence ;-)

Everyone at work got to know you during Covid, when we all worked from home and shared video using Teams. You always jumped on my desk, pushing the keyboard out of the way so you could be even closer to me.

So many stories to tell, so many things we went through together, but time has run out. You were my once-in-a-lifetime furry soulmate. I will miss you forever, my dearest Balthazar…
